Tax Comparison

No state tax lottery states

States with a 0% state lottery tax estimate

Some states in Jackpot Universe use a 0% state lottery tax estimate. That does not mean a jackpot is tax-free: federal tax still applies, and a winner's actual result can depend on residency, local rules, and final filings.

For comparison, this site uses a 37.00% federal estimate before adding any state rate.

Why 0% does not mean no tax

Powerball and Mega Millions jackpot winners usually compare the lump-sum cash value after federal withholding and expected final federal tax. A 0% state estimate only removes the state-rate line from the simplified comparison. It is not legal or tax advice.
